Rose scones

I bought a Rose Jam and it’s delicious on toast with butter. I wanted to make something that will complement it even better and scones are the perfect choice. The scones are very good, the flavour was just right. Serving the scones with rose petals gave them a vintage feel even though the flavours are modern.

01 Rose scones

Ingredients for 6 Rose scones:

– 115g self-raising flour white
– 110g self-raising flour wholemeal
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 35g butter
– 35g rose Turkish delight
– 1 teaspoon of rose water
– 2g dried rose petals
– 1 egg
– 110 ml milk
– clotted cream for serving
– Rose jam for serving

Pre-heat the oven at 200C/180C fan. Measure the ingredients precisely. Mix all the dry ingredients and add the butter in cubes. Using the hands, rub the butter in the flour until it looks like bread crumbs. Beat the egg, incorporate the milk and the rose water. Pour the egg on the dry ingredients and start mixing them. Keep a spoon of egg mixture in the bowl.

The dough is wet and it should be ready fast. Don’t knead it too much. Roll the dough on a floured surface and cut the scones.

Place them on a baking parchment and brush them with the egg mixture. Bake the scones for 12-15 minutes. Take them out of the oven and leave them to cool for a couple of minutes on a cooling rack. This is the recipe for rose scones.
